Formerly M50, purchased with other objects, 15 November 1985. From the Armoury at Littlecote House.

Physical Description

The lock is of type 3 design. The lockplate was pierced for 3 sidenails but the centre one has been filled and the lock is now held in place by 2. The lock has been converted from a snaphance. The steel, bridle and screws have been restored.


The stock has a club butt and a wooden-tipped ramrod which may be original. There is an old repair to the toe of the butt held together by a large staple in the sole of the butt. There are resin repairs to the lock cavity and fore-end. The forward 5 5/8 in. of the fore-end have been replaced.


The barrel has an octagonal breech that extends for 11 1/2 in. where there is a baluster. After this the barrel is round. There is a notch backsight and a bead foresight. The barrel is held in place by 3 pins. The breech plug and tang are restorations
