Physical Description

The lock is of type 1 design held in by 2 restored sidenails. The buffer screw has been restored.


The stock has a fishtail butt and a ramrod which may be original and has a wooden tip. There is a butt plate that may be an old replacement. It covered the whole sole although the upper 2 in. is missing. The heel of the butt has been restored and the remainder of the butt has been extensively repaired with resin. The stock forward of the lock has been restored.


The barrel has an octagonal breech that extends for 10 in. at which point there is a baluster. After this the barrel is round. There is a notch backsight and a bead foresight that is almost worn away. The barrel is held in place by 2 pins at the moment although there may have been originally 3. The muzzle is gently swamped
