Physical Description

The breech portion is chiselled in high relief with strapwork and foliage and at the base with three classical warriors one probably representing Macius Scaevola holding his hand in the fire. In the centre is a silver plague bearing in releif the Eagle and Columns of Hercules badge of Charles V and at the top a smaller silver inset bearing a storck-like bird and the date, either false or altered, 1531. There is a swelling at the muzzle. The barrel bears a group of maker’s marks stamped just forward od the chiselled ornament.
