Physical Description

The hilt of gilt brass (copper alloy) consisting of a rounded pommel with tang button. The wooden grip is bound withcopper wire and ribbon. The straight cross bears floriated terminals. The pommel and cross are both cast in relief with lodged stags and bunches of grapes correctly displayed when the sword is borne point uppermost.
The straight two-edged blae is of flattened elliptical sectio, ground down from a much bigger (and earlier?) blade.
