Transferred in 1963 from the Royal United Service Museum (No. 2458) to whom it was presented by H.M. King Edward VII.

Physical Description

The carbine is the Modele An XI (1800-01) this example being one of two hundred and nine produced at the manufactory at Versailles with silver mounts as presentation arms.
The barrel is octagonal at the breech, altering immediately to round section, engraved Entse Boutet and stamped with the initials of the controller Pierre Bouny, the mark of the Inspector d’Audigne, 12 B indicating manufacture in the 12th year of the republican calendar, also stamped with the initials RF by the touch hole. On the right side of the butt is a large shield shaped silver plate inscribed Leer Consul au Cen Perrier Nas foise Caraber au 2e regt pour actions d’eclat. this translates as 'The First Consul to Citizen Perrier, Nicholas Francois, Carabinier of the 2nd Regiment for brilliant feats of arms. The silver mounts bear standard and excise marks and the initials of controller Daniel Boussavy. The butt also bears an acceptance stamp incorporating the mark of the Controller Brouilly and indicating acceptance in the month of Messidor of the year 12.The silver mounts bear standard and excise marks and the initials of Boussavy.

Nicholas Francois Perrier distinguished himself at the Battle of Hohenlinden in 1800 where he captured a gun having disposed of a gun-crew single handed. He was made a member of the Legion of Honour on its creation in 1802.
