Purchased from the Beriah Botfield collection at Norton Hall, Northamptonshire, with the aid of the National Art Collections Fund, 1942 (Norton Hall No. 498).

Physical Description

Similar to VII.1380 except that the spike is of stiff diamond section throughout its length, the cusps on the blade involve short curved lugs and the socket had two of its sides separate; these are formed by the upper ends of two of the four langets. There is additional foliate etching on two faces of the socket involving cartouches with lion marks, and the date 1604 appears under the coat of arms on one face. Modern wooden haft covered with green velvet. Tassel similar to VII.1380.
