Transferred from the Rotunda Museum of Artillery, Woolwich, 1978.

Physical Description

Experimental, made of two layers of leather with a horsehair lining, with a slight medial keel and a flange at the waist. It is decorated with three inverted U-shaped arcs of small copper rivets, with two more arcs bordering the neck and one bordering either arm. At either shoulder is a triangular tab attached by three rivets, with fragments of a shoulder strap. At either side of the waist is an ornate iron buckle for the waist strap. At the centre is a proof mark.

Inscriptions and Marks

Stamped at the left shoulder MA 2258, and formerly painted 16.156 (in error). There is a stamped tag 16.191 at the neck.
