From the collection of the Earl of Harewood, acquired May 1952. Originally made for Henry, 3rd Earl of Harewood, 1797-1857.

Physical Description

Double side by side Damascus twist barrels with browned finish, inscribed J. Purdey 3141/2 OXFORD STREET LONDON. Undersides stamped with London proof marks, initials J P and serial number 4242. Locks engraved with scrolling foliage and PURDEY. Scutcheon plate engraved with an earl's coronet and monogram J H. Blued steel mounts engraved with scrolling foliage.


Mahogany case lined with green baize; the accessories consist of a Dixon powder-flask covered with blue leather, a blue leather awksley shot flask, a T-headed nipple-key with pricker and two nipple-holders each containing a spare nipple, an oil bottle and a number of percussion caps.
