Physical Description

Two rivet type, made in two parts, joined by rivets at the brim and in a comb, which widens at the crown, over the bowl. The brim is broad and curves down at either side. The main edge is inwardly turned with a sunken border; originally containing eighteen lining rivets with square internal washers, now of which are missing. The bowl is bordered above the brim by a single incised line. At either side of the bowl are two domed headed rivets with square internal washers for the attachment of cheekpieces. At the rear is a plume holder.


The surfaces have a brown patination and have been blued and lacquered. The brim is pierced at the front by three holes and there is some damage to the turned.

Stamped at the front in the border is ID for the maker and at the right side also in the border is a crowned IR.
