Physical Description

The brass cylinder embossed with an oval shield bearing the Royal Arms of France surmounted by a crown and backed by an anchor and a trophy of banners. Above is a ribbon inscribed CORPS ROYAL DE MARINE.

Le Corps Royal de Marine came into existence in 1772 as successor to the Corps Royal d'Artillerie et d'Infanterie de Marine. It was in turn succeeded by the Corps Royal d'Infanterie de Marine in 1774.
