Physical Description

A military Colt, of usual octagonal barrel Navy type, with octagonal barrel. The barrel, loading lever and frame have been coated in a dull black finish that is not comparable to the ususal commercial blueing. The cylinder retains its naval battle scene, and the iron grip and triggerguard are unplated. The grip is one piece walnut and has a hole drilled through both sides, possibly for use with a naval gun rack rod as used in HM Ships of the period

Inscriptions and Marks

Barrel: Arrow ADDRESS COL COLT LONDON Arrow Also No 8 is stamped on the barrel midway between the key and lever screw. The toe of the butt has 25 on it and a WD mark and arrow on the barrel lug between the key and screw. Unusually, there are no British proof marks.There is also a WD mark on the left grip
