Replaces a Dutch all steel Flintlock Pistol sold in 1965/6. Originally purchased from Sotheby's 27th February 1951, lot 76.

Joined the army as an Ensign November 1828
Became Lieutenant November 1833
Became Captain February 1838
Became Major June 1847
Transferred to be Lt.Col. 54th Regiment in 1856.
Retired as Major General in 1860. He does not seem to have served overseas.
