Each column is joined to the next by a band of heavy riveted mail. At the base of the skull, which is rather tall for its diameter, are two rows of links to which are attached to shield shaped plates as ear flaps and a rectangular patch of mail as a neck guard. Holes in the ear pieces show that the helmet was originally sewn onto a fabric lining. The links of the neck guard are alternately plain and theta, the latter rather spidery and entirely of round section.
