Physical Description

Made from a single carved wooden block and painted. Only the front of the hair over the brow is modelled, the rest painted in dark brown and black, with dark brown highlights on the modelled hair. Long sideburns, moustaches and small beard are all rendered in paint. The eyes are painted brown. The ears are barely rendered at all. The underside of the neck is cut to an uneven base, with a visible sawmark. It is pierced for a dowel.
A large chip of wood has been lost from the right side of the nose. There are paint chips on the left of the jaw, revealing the white undercoat. There are also other chips, especially over the eyebrows and chin.
