Physical Description

Of very fine quality. The barrel has a blued finish and is octagonal at the breech and bears the gold stamps of theSpanish barrel maker - Nicholas Bis. The backsight is of the silver slip-on ring type and the foresight gold.
A lock with rounded lockplate and cock, the latter with the tail of the lockplate finely chiselled with scrollwork and the frizzen with a grotesque mask. The centre of the lockplate is engraved with a warrior in roman armour and a bound captive, it is also engraved with the makers name LORENZONI. The frizzen incorporates a seperate pancover releases by a spring catch.
It has a burr walnut stock with a short fore-end. There are silver mounts cast and chased in relief, the buttplate with the overthrow of the Titans by Jupiter whose figure, astride an eagle, forms the escutchion plate, the triggerguard with Mars while the screwplate shows a scene possible representing Achilles with the body of Hector. It also incorporates a medallion engraved LORENZONI FORENZI. The barrel is secured to the fore-end by barrel bands pierced and chased with warriors in combat with serpants.
