Notes

Approved in 1807, 1,209 of this model 1807 carbine were assembled at Springfield Armoury between 1808 and 1810. They were originally intended for issue to friendly-Disposed Red Indian Tribes by the Indian Bureau but they were never issued to the Bureau. In 1830 those remaining in store (about 930) were altered by cutting off the stock at the muzzle to allow the fitting of a socket bayonet and then issued to cadets until a proper Cadet Musket could be made. Most of these carbines were sold off as unsuitable for Goverment service in the late 1840's.
