Physical Description

Cast brass hilt consisting of: rounded beaked pommel in one with ribbed grip, looking by button operated leafspring catch screwed to the outside of the grip; guard of steel, downcurved quillon with globular terminal, French type split muzzle ring cut out for a side stud and screw adjustment; a steel rivet passes through the grip and tang.
Sawback blade fullered on both sides with chamfered edge and spear point. Belonging and attached to XII.2553.

Inscriptions and Marks

The hilt is marked: on the pommel a lion over H in a cartouche; crown over FA; inthe bar-slot 2024; on the quillon black 10. Blade is marked on the outside: crown over FA; 1881; on the back LD; on the inside GB in an oval and the lion over H mark.
