Provenance

Old Tower Collection. Previously catalogued under the 1909 Dillon sequence as XII.36 and before that under the 1859 Hewitt (or Old War Office sequence) as XII.62. Therfore was in the collection prior to 1859.

Physical Description

Barrel octagonal at the breech then round the diameter enlarging gradually towards the muzzle. The breech section is punched with a cross-hatched pattern and the underside stamped with two marks. Lock with external wheel the lower edge of the lockplate being curved to it's outline. The lockplate bears a maker's mark Stock with short, combed shoulder-butt the whole inlaid with a simple pattern of scrollwork in brass wire. The front lock-screw has a ring-shaped head probably for the hook of a shoulder-belt. Trigger guard and ramrod restored
