Scope and Content
A large batch of letters labelled as from 'B.H.S.', which seems to indicate an informal group of school/university friends who called themselves the 'Bablock Hythe Society' and went on an annual expedition to rub brasses and photograph effigies. The group included 'R', Reginald Jennings, who seems to have taught at Ipswich school and then at Marlborough College, Kenneth Wickham, who taught at Eton, John Roger Fox who became an Augustine Canon at St. Maurice in Valais, and Alan Ranne or Ranie of Winchester, five in all with JGM.
A note in JGM's hand listing places visited by B.H.S. between 1920 and 1934. The actual routes can often be followed in JGM's collection of Little Guides which he has annotated with dates visited and with whom, 1920: Worcestershire, Shropshire, Hereford, Gloucester, 1921: Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, 1922: Isle of Wight, Hants., Dorset, 1923: Devon, 1924: Sussex, Kent, 1925: Norfolk, 1926: Lincs., 1927: Rutland, Lincs., 1928: Nottingham, Leicester, 1929: Yorkshire, E.R., 1930: Shropshire, 1931: Essex, 1932: Suffolk, 1933: Blandford, 1934: Newport Pagnell.
