Scope and Content

Every time a British gun is fires, a tank charges down the enemy, and a ship crosses the sea- that is the climax of a job well done by men and robots in the clanging cavernous maw of a steelworks here on our island. It all comes back to steel. Steel is the prime ingredient of war- even more important than oil. And unlike oil it is born in fire out of the very soil of Britain, forged and tempered by British workmen. Photo shows: This three-magnet crane lifts ten rows of steel plates in one operation over the rollers of the loading shop. Steel plates are slowly leaving the premises.
