Flying Fortresses of US Eighth Army Force Strike at St Nazaire in one of three daylight attacks by the biggest force of US four engined bombers yet to raid German occupied Europe on 29/5/43/ The month of May has been described as "The best so far" in the war against the U-boats. A vital part of that war has been the raids on the French coast bases from which U-boats operate. According to Air Chief MArshal Sir Philip Joubert, cumulative night and day raids by the RAF and US 8th Air Force have knocked one of these U-boat bases completely out of action for at least three months.
