At 4.30 on the morning of Sept. 3rd, forth anniversary of the outbreak of war, 8th Army troops set foot on the mainland of Europe. Within a week of the landing Italy had surrendered unconditionally and Allied Forces were in complete possession of the "Toe" of Italy. The picture shows: Trucks landing from landing craft on the Italian coast. Picture issued September 1943.
