Scope and Content

On July 18, Beaufighters were detailed to attack rolling stock on the important railway line which runs from Sagaing Railhead to the Chindwin River at Monywa and then Northeastward to Ye-U. This dry area produces cotton and ground nuts- materials of vital importance to the Japanese war effort. This photograph was taken during the attack by RAF Beaufighters with cannon and machine guns. Photo shows: Strikes on goods waggons flying between Monywa and Sagaing, several of which are enveloped in smoke. Picture issued September 1943.
