Scope and Content

Before a paratroop jump there is a great deal of the most careful preparatory work to be done. Men cannot jump and land safely carrying guns and other heavy equipment, they must be dropped separately. Such equipment is packed in special containers fastened underneath the plane. The paratroops enter the plane, it takes off (probably at night) and the men prepare to make their jumps over the right spot. They must jump very quickly, one after another, so that they land close together on the ground. Photo shows: A human body hurtles out into space. Attached to the parachute pack on his back is a static line fastened to the plane. When this line snaps tight as he falls, the cover of the 'chute is ripped out, air gets under the first folds of the chute and quickly drags it out of the container. This man is carrying an automatic gun ready for instant action when he touches down.
