Scope and Content

As they passed through a small town on the way to take Palermo, American troops had a foretaste of the enthusiastic joy with which the people of Sicily's chief town welcomed them. Everywhere cheering people and children waved white flags, threw gifts of fruit and cried "Viva America" "Viva Inghilterre". The picture shows: US troops passing through hysterically cheering crowds in a small town on their route to Palermo. Picture issued July 1943.
