No. 9741 (26 January 1816), page 3, col. 4, 'The following account of the escape of Lord Nithsdale is contained in a letter written by the Countess of Nithsdale to her sister Lady Lucy Herbert: - 'I first came to London' says this Lady, 'upon hearing that my Lord was committed to the Tower...', Winifred Nithsdale spills the beans on how she engineered the classic 'disguised as lady' escape for her Lord. Passed the guards, a safe house for a few days, a few more days at the Venetian Embassy, and a quick hop by small boat from Dover to the continent
