Scope and Content

Foolscap quarto, aproximately 20 leaves of mimeographed orders, some pencil annotations, ink stamps of HQ 15th Division. 4 mimeographed maps/plans.,

Offensive operations following the break-out after D-Day. Confusingly referred to as Operation GROUSE, but having nothing to do with Telemark, these orders relate to aspects of the Allied offensives working towards the consolidation of the Falaise Pocket. They comprise: Top Secret Instruction No. 8 to 8 Corps for operations in concert with US V Corps and 30 Corps, near Tinchebray; Secret orders for the Guards Armoured Division to 'Secure the high ground in the area Boulay aux Chats. subsequently seize the high ground Mont de Cerisi.'; and Secret Administrative Instruction No. 17, for 8 Corps, 'Intention: To maintain 8 Corps during Op. 'Grouse'.' These operations are best understood with reference to Map 22 in Montgomery's Normandy to the Baltic, 'Operations towards the closing of the 'Pocket'.'

An interesting little group of these far from common operational papers, giving a good sense of the complexity involved in co-ordinating operations following the break-out. [Booksellers description]
