Scope and Content

Labelled on the front cover: 'Sketches of Armour, Arms etc.' The contents consist of sketches of arms and armour, some of which can be identified and which are probably done from the originals, and sketches of figures in armour, some of which are labelled as from an ancient carving, or similar. Most of the latter are signed TMG,

Inserted in the sketchbook were 34 loose drawings, some of which show signs of having been extracted form the sketchbook and one or two of which are signed TMG or TG (in a different hand), numbered 1-34 on the back.

Also some correspondence relating to the sketchbook between Sir James Mann and Bashford Dean, and a note on the back of a view of a book sale room: 'The Property of Mrs. Grimshaw whose husband was employed to clean the Armour of the (Armourers) Company. He is now deceased. His widow offers it for Sale for 1ú'.
