Administrative / Biographical History

Mellor was a veteran of the Boer War. As part of the 2nd Battalion of the Kings Royal Rifle Corps (2 Brigade, 1st Division) Mellor arrived in France on the 13th August 1914, he was wounded on the 14th September 1914, presumably during the Battle of the Aisne, Mellor returned to England on the 27th September. He set off for France once more on the 8th April 1916, attached to VIII Corps headquarters as a 'learner for Provost duties'. On the 26th April he took over as Assistant Provost Marshal of 29th Division, at the end of July he was posted to 6th Division, again as Assistant Provost Marshal.
