Scope and Content

A volume containing notes of armour, etc., packed and issued on loan, and of the extra wages paid to men who packed, delivered and set it up. Loans returned are scored through or noted as 'returned uninjured' or 'returned inspected and replaced'. There are also notes of changes in the position of armour after the 1857 Remain (RAR.0021) was taken, especially when armour listed as in the Workshops was repaired and put on show.

Miscellaneous notes on the fly-leaves indicate that this was a running record apparently kept in the Workshop. Other notes include various addresses, including that of an inn a Hoddesdon offering 'good accommodation for Anglers'. The loans include: annual issues from the Armouries, Tower of London to Guildhall for the Lord Mayor's Festival; several to Windsor Castle and to Enfield to be cleaned for Windsor; to the Mayor of Litchfield 'on the orders of Mr. Stacey'; to Mechanics Institutes; and several to the Manchester Exhibition of 1857, selected by Mr. Waring and Mr. Pratt.

Also included is the return of a loan to the New York Exhibition of 1853-56 is listed and some correspondence and a photocopy of an account of the exhibition of armour have been tipped in.
