Scope and Content

Labelled 'Armoury Issues (and returns E.B.)' on front cover and 'Issues of Armour, Arms etc. for Loan etc.' on first page. First entry is dated 18 May 1858, and records the issue from the Armouries, Tower of London, of a loan of a suit of armour and a shirt of mail to the Mayor of Lichfield (cf. I.2).

The first few pages are used as a normal Issues and Returns ledger, but from about 1860 orders authorising issues and exchanges were entered and the book gradually came to be used as a general occurence book, including authorisations to artists to sketch, for school visits, notes of requisitions of cleaning materials and for repairs, as well as notes and authorisations of loans and rearrangements (including Mr. Planche's rearrangement of May 1869), as well as 'transfers to old Iron' NB: Loans to Indian Museum Note on the Stained glass from Strawberry Hill, 1876.

The book seems to have been reused between 1901 and 1912, after a gap from 1889.
