This is a document presented by Thomas Cheek, Lieutenant of the Tower of London seeking payment for the costs he incurred in safekeeping prisoners there.

'Mid Summer Quarter 1682/the demands of Thomas Cheek Esq Lieut of Ye Tower of Safekeeping ye Prisoners in ye Tower...', detailing the costs incurred in keeping the Earl of Danby, Earl of Powys, Lord Bellasyse, Lord Petre and Lord Arundell.

These individuals were all accused by Titus Oates of complicity in the Popish Plot, and Robert Tichborne (the regicide) to depose King Charles II.

The document lists the fees of 'the chaplain, physician, chirurgeon [surgeon], apothecary' and othes, including smiths, joiners, glaziers, bricklayers and chimney-sweeps during the quarter in the total sum of £189 9s 2d,

Dated and signed by the privy counsellors, the Earls of Aylesbury, Bridgewater, Craven, Huntingdon, Peterborough, Sunderland and Carlisle. It is also signed by John Nicholas and Thomas Cheek
